Nishka Gurung

My name is Nishka Gurung and I'm currently a high school student at ICS Bangkok!

I'm passionate about reading as many books as I can and reflecting on what I've learned and loved from each one in a reading log that was initially a class project when I was in 10th grade, but which I've been doing my best to keep updating whenever possible so that I can always look back at what I've read. I enjoy music, I play the cello in my high school orchestra and I've been singing and acting in school musicals for the last five years. I like to write poems, stories and songs to process my emotions and preserve memories, as well as to build fictional worlds and narratives I want to explore. I also care about journalism, and I'm currently serving as editor in chief of my school newspaper and co-president of a youth led club called Source of Success that interviews public figures and posts the interviews online to inspire young people. All in all, I'm passionate about expression, creation, using my own voice, and creating spaces where others can share theirs.

My favorite TED talk is The Danger of a Single Story by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Listening to her TED talk was an incredible experience where I heard ideas that resonated deeply with me, but that I had never thought to voice myself. I was inspired to watch more TED talks and to seek out opportunities to be involved in TEDx. I went on to become a speaker at TEDxYouth@ICS on February 10, 2024, was a speaker at TEDxYouth@ICSBKK on February 8, 2025, and was licensee and lead organizer and curator of TEDxYouth@ICSBKK on February 7, 2026.

I've studied taekwondo ever since I was in 3rd grade!
