TEDxHappyValley is an independent event held in Hong Kong, providing a platform to stimulate, nurture and progress current social debate and positive social change. We are a group of committed, passionate and professional global citizens who celebrate the transformative power of positivity and radical resilience. We’re volunteering our time, efforts and skills in order to build an active community that will empower people to make positive, sustainable changes within themselves and the communities around them. TEDxHappyValley aims to provide events with a fresh and dynamic energy within the TEDx community, and to find stories that have not yet been told and have strong resonance on both a local and a global level. On Saturday, April 13, 2013, TEDxHappyValley will bring together eleven inspirational speakers from around the world to share personal stories of “Radical Resilience”. Harnessing the power of storytelling, these eleven voices embody the incredible spirit, creativity, ingenuity, compassion and courage of human potential at its best. In the face of adversity or confronted by a seemingly insurmountable challenge, our speakers deliberately acted to reject, reverse, or transcend barriers. The consciousness of these choices is the essence of radical resilience embodied in the teachings of the late great psychiatrist, author and Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl. This is a day of making lemonade out of lemons, designed both to inspire and ignite greater consciousness in all who participate. Viktor Frankl not only survived the unimaginable horrors of the Holocaust but went on to become one of the most inspiring and radically resilient minds of our time. Radical Resilience is about actively choosing how we react in any given situation, and especially those circumstances that shake us to our core. A profound springing back into shape, radical resilience is a deliberate, conscious choice, and therein lies its power. Radical resilience always takes courage; it’s properties are both elastic and tough. It is that dichotomy – soft/firm, flexible/sturdy, that bears the fruit. In a day and age where society suffers from a kind of ‘information obesity’ the need to cut through all the chatter to share radically profound, inspirational and transformational stories is more important than ever.
