• Alexis Baker

  M5 (Year 10) student

  ‘The Mysteries of Dark Energy’. Alexis first discovered her interest in theoretical physics when reading Richard Feynman's lecture on quantum behaviour. An ambitious drama scholar with a passion for performance, she is excited to be combining her love of public speaking with her desire to uncover the unexplored entities of our universe.

• Alice Odili

  Lower Sixth (Year 12) student

  ‘Why Cinema Matters’. Driven by her interest in culture, Alice is passionate about theatre and film. She is studying drama, religious studies, and English at A-level alongside writing a research project on method acting. Her acting experience includes taking part in a BBC production and playing lead roles in musical theatre productions.

• Anissa Sim

  Lower Sixth (Year 12) student

  ‘The Myth of the Orient’. Anissa is fascinated by the law and global affairs. With a love of debate, MUN and mooting, she particularly enjoys exploring questions on public law, such as constitutional rights, regulation and the limits of government.

• Belle Lam

  M5 (Year 10) student

  ‘The Joy of Risk’. Belle loves to push herself beyond her comfort zone, whether through learning an extra language or researching science beyond the classroom. A regular participant in academic enrichment activities, she is also a keen lacrosse player and a key member of the school choir and rock band, regularly performing in concerts. She enjoys listening to music and watching classic films, recently creating a podcast on Charlie Chaplin.

• Eliza-Grace Suswain

  M5 (Year 10) student

  ‘Much Ado About Relevance’. Eliza-Grace has a love for acting, Classical history, and literature, recently starring in a school performance of ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time’. She has written her own murder mystery play and is a convincing advocate for the role of drama in schools. Alongside her responsibilities as a drama scholar, Eliza-Grace enjoys playing for the school’s tennis team.

• Emilia Rasulova

  L5 (Year 9) student

  ‘Same Sound, Different Worlds’. With her passion for intellectual exploration, Emilia particularly enjoys French, history and maths, and is fascinated by the ways language, logic, and human experience intersect. Alongside her studies, she enjoys creative writing and tennis, and is especially interested in the relationship between music, emotion and human behaviour. Through her TEDx talk, she hopes to encourage others to think more deeply about the impact of sound on our everyday lives.

• Georgie Binet HOST

  M5 (Year 10) student

  A keen sportswoman who plays squash for Jersey and is part of almost every school team, Georgie particularly loves English and Classical subjects. Her intellectual interests are wide-ranging: she recently shared her research on the mysterious, prehistoric Tully monster at our annual Festival of Scholarship. Georgie writes for pleasure and enjoys public speaking.

• Julia Chung HOST

  L6 (Year 12) student

  Julia’s interest in hosting this event reflects her curiosity across a wide range of disciplines. Studying biology, chemistry, and history for A level, she hopes to read human sciences at university and pursues her interests beyond the classroom through entering essay competitions and delivering lunchtime talks, including on biological warfare and neurodegenerative diseases. Also a talented musician, Julia is diploma level in piano and cello and plays in our symphony orchestra and string quartet.

• Natalie Yiu

  Lower Sixth (Year 12) student

  ‘Cashless - At What Cost?’. Natalie has a keen interest in economic policy and the legal frameworks that constrain it. Alongside her studies, which include economics A level, she has developed her public speaking skills through competitions and debating. Natalie is especially interested in debates surrounding financial systems and governance.

• Seren Upton

  L5 (Year 9) student

  ‘Lifetime Stats and Your Phone’. Seren, an academic and drama scholar, has a particular passion for drama, maths, and science and enjoys debating, engineering and creative problem-solving. Outside the classroom, she is an enthusiastic swimmer and lacrosse player who loves reading - especially crime fiction and classic literature. Her other interests include watercolour painting, baking and piano. Through her talk, Seren hopes to encourage others to think differently about technology, creativity and the choices we make in everyday life.

• Sophie Casey

  Lower Sixth (Year 12) student

  ‘Face Value’. As STEM Ambassador at St Swithun’s, Sophie enjoys encouraging younger students to engage with science and explore new ideas. She is particularly interested in the relationship between biology and psychology, especially how these disciplines shape perception and behaviour. Outside the classroom, she is competing in the European Space Agency’s CanSat competition, working as part of a team to design and build a miniature satellite the size of a soda can. She plans to pursue her love of scientific research at university.

• Sophie Meng

  M5 (Year 10) student

  ‘When Gaming Becomes Gambling’. Sophie is best known at St Swithun’s for her passion for music. Diploma-level in piano, she regularly performs at concerts, competitions, festivals and recitals. Her favourite subjects are English, chemistry, and physics but she is also fascinated by politics, economics, and psychology. These broad interests are reflected in her holding academic, music, maths, and art scholarships! For relaxation she draws, reads dystopian and sci-fi novels, and plays video games – although rather less so than she used to, as you might guess from the title of her talk.
