Jazz and Rhythm and Blues are the only original American music genres. It took the culmination of European orchestral structured technique combined with heavy rhythmic percussions of Africa to create jazz, which led to rhythm and blues music. Popular “pop” music is the fusion of orchestral and percussions. As a result, Black music has shaped the American music landscape. The evolution of rock and roll, soul, and hip hop are art forms defined by Black music.
