TEDxArizona State University

As college students, we have noticed that there is a lack of “literacy” on college campuses. We use literacy not as a reflection of reading comprehension, but rather, an understanding of the world. For instance, social media literacy is of utmost importance. Within a world full of misinformation and clickbait, it's especially important to have critical thinking skills to evaluate all the information you are presented with. Yet within this world, critical thinking seems to be on a decline, with misinformation and hyper-partisan news on an incline. Political literacy, financial literacy, cultural literacy, all flow from this. We want to address these issues through a TEDx event to reach as many people as we can, in hopes of creating a world where people think between the lines, taking information beyond its surface value. We want to use TEDx to create a platform promoting community voices that help us accomplish this goal, helping us give back to the community through something we're passionate about.
