As a small child, we tend to think that everyone experiences the world exactly the way we do. As we grow up, we realize there is no world. There are only 8 billion perspectives that shape 8 billion perceptions of it. Have you ever pondered how differences in perspective drive conflict, division, and bias, but a world without them would be devoid of innovation, diversity, and colour? Are our viewpoints simply a reflection of those around us, or are they totally unique? How can we be open-minded towards others' perspectives while staying true to our core principles? To what extent do we have the free will to choose and influence the factors that shape our worldviews? At the end of the day, whose perspectives are valued and whose are ignored, and how can we fix the structural inequities that allow this gap to occur?
These are but a few of the myriad profound questions that arise when we think about the immense power of perspectives. Each of us have unique lived experiences that shape our perspectives on everything, from whether we like a certain food to our fundamental morals. Which perspectives should be brought into the limelight? Which perspectives should be shared with the world?
