Culture is often thought of as something fixed, something we are simply born into. Yet it expands far beyond ethnicities, nationalities, and religion. It is shaped by the values we hold, the ways we communicate, and the experiences that define who we are. Culture does not belong to one group; it belongs to everyone and is constantly evolving. At TEDxOLQW, students from Our Lady Queen of the World will explore the question: What is culture to you? Through personal stories and reflections, speakers will examine how growing up in a multicultural environment has influenced their identities, perspectives, and sense of belonging. In today’s world, conversations about diversity and inclusivity are more important than ever. As schools and workplaces become increasingly multicultural, many still struggle to find where they belong. This event aims to create an environment of understanding where students can learn to appreciate not only other cultures but also their own. Featuring voices from a wide range of backgrounds, TEDxOLQW invites the community to see culture through different lenses, to challenge stereotypes, and to recognize that culture is not solely inherited but something each person continues to define for themselves.

  • Adriano Pecchia

    Adriano Pecchia is a Grade 11 student at Our Lady Queen of the World Catholic Academy with a passion for culture, storytelling, and human connection. Coming from a multicultural background, Adriano enjoys exploring the similarities that unite people across different traditions and communities.

  • Harinie Santhiramohan

    Harinie Santhiramohan is a Grade 11 student at Our Lady Queen of the World Catholic Academy who is passionate about media, culture, and representation. Through her experiences growing up immersed in Tamil culture, she hopes to encourage conversations about identity, beauty standards, and inclusivity.

  • Megan Ching

    Megan Ching is a Grade 11 student at Our Lady Queen of the World Catholic Academy with an interest in philosophy, art, and culture. She enjoys exploring big questions about beauty, meaning, and creativity, and how these ideas continue to shape society today.

  • Sarah Lan

    Sarah Lan is a Grade 9 student at Our Lady Queen of the World Catholic Academy who is interested in productivity, wellness, and modern culture. Through her talk, she explores the pressures of hustle culture and encourages others to rethink what it truly means to live a balanced and fulfilling life.
