This year's line-up explored topics ranging from medical misogyny and internalized misogyny to luck, autonomous AI, and the nonlinear nature of growth. Listening to our speakers develop and share their ideas reminded us why storytelling matters: it can make unfamiliar ideas feel personal, challenge our perspectives, encourage intellectual debate, and make ideas more meaningful and memorable. Their talks truly took our understandings "Beyond the Horizon"

  • Alyssa Goodrham Mclaine

Alyssa is a Grade 12 student at LPCI who loves spending time with friends and reading. She is also passionate about her job as a gymnastics coach and spends a lot of her free time at work. In her talk, Alyssa discusses medical misogyny and how it has affected us in the past and is continuously affecting us today. It invites the audience to examine how patriarchal values are deeply ingrained within our society and the effects they can have on women.

  • Brandon Lau

    Student

Brandon is a grade 11 student at LPCI, ski racer and pianist. In his free time, he enjoys playing the piano, skiing and reading. He is also enthusiastic in catching up with the latest developments in AI and how it can be applied to our lives. In his talk, Brandon will explore the latest evolution of autonomous AI agents and present a cautionary tale and what it means for the future.

  • Hannah Dobai-Wu

    Student

Hannah is a Grade 12 student at Lawrence Park who enjoys playing video games, willingly reading terrible books, doomscrolling, and going on escapades with friends. As co-president of LP's Stage Crew, her free time is spent stuck in the auditorium. In her talk, she will explore internalized misogyny, and how it typically sprouts from good intentions. She will also touch upon the consequences it has on both women and the feminist movement, encouraging listeners to embrace female unity over division.

  • Jacob Lang

    Student

In his talk, Jacob challenges the idea that change is a clean comeback story. He explores growth as a nonlinear, spiral process shaped by struggle, reflection, and patience, and invites the audience to stop chasing who they were and start embracing who they’re becoming.

  • Judah Guttman

    Student

Judah is a Grade 11 student at LPCI. In his free time, he enjoys playing the guitar and drums, fantasy board games, building construction toys, watching movies, studying retro artifacts, and reading books, especially comic books. He is also interested in finance and exploring future business endeavours. In his talk, Judah will delve deeply into the idea that “luckiness” can be used as a fundamental mindset to achieve success and greatness in one’s own image. Best put, he will mention that luck is not a “lottery game”, but a “role-playing game”.
