This year’s theme “Adjust Focus: Look Again” invites audiences to make a subtle but powerful shift in perspective, just enough to see what has been there all along. Across disciplines and lived experiences, each speaker challenges assumptions and reexamines the systems, beliefs, and everyday realities often taken for granted. Together, the eight talks explore how even the smallest adjustment in focus can bring hidden patterns, overlooked tensions, and new possibilities into view. Rooted in Hong Kong’s layered identity, the experience reflects a city where perspectives collide, overlap, and evolve. The visual language of the event mirrors this idea: warm orange evokes the glow of streetlights and the density of urban life; cool blue reflects the rhythm of the harbour; and deep green traces tramlines and the hillsides that shape nearly 40% of the city’s landscape. A supporting tile motif, inspired by the checkered floors of Dai Pai Dong eateries, grounds the experience in the textures of everyday Hong Kong life.

  • John Terenzini

An accomplished environmental researcher with a background in outdoor education. John’s fascination with jellyfish began during a canoe expedition in Alaska. This experience led him to study Environmental Management at the University of Hong Kong. In 2020, John founded the "Hong Kong Jellyfish Project," a citizen science initiative aimed at empowering the public to collaborate with scientists. Through this model, John is able to conduct detailed research on the distribution of jellyfish in Hong Kong waters, deepening understanding of key aspects of local marine biodiversity and effectively promoting marine conservation efforts.
