Adam Belhouchette
First year Student at UWC RBC
In his thought-provoking Tedtalk Old Habits Die Screaming, Adam, a first-year student at UWC Robert Bosch College, explores the profound emotional turmoil we experience when breaking deeply ingrained habits, particularly those tied with relationships. Drawing from personal encounters, Adam's passion for neurology and psychology was sparked by observing the complex behaviors and reactions of both people and himself in his life. Rather than offering oversimplified solutions, he meticulously unpacks the multiple layers of psychological, neurological, and emotional factors that contribute to why breaking free from established patterns feels like an acute loss, often accompanied by pain and resistance. Through his analysis, Adam illuminates why we often find ourselves screaming (experiencing intense feelings of despair, anger, and grief ) when attempting to reshape our ingrained behaviors and relationship patterns.
Olivia Rawiel
First year Student at UWC RBC
Olivia Rawiel is a high school student born and raised in New York City. She is a passionate writer and student, having written several published poems and articles. Currently Olivia is attending the Robert Bosch College UWC in Freiburg, Germany, where she is exploring these passions through her new and exciting environment. Specifically, in her talk she discusses the idea of understanding the world through the lens of “Irony”, in order to better process the strenuous activity of moving across the ocean from her home city to southern Germany. Through this concept, she analyzes the ways in which people can evolve, dissecting the notions that we must understand the world around us in order to grow. She encourages the listener to find a new perspective on change and learn that to approach life in the right way, you must find a different way.
Tewobistya Abebe
First year Student at UWC RBC
Tewobistya Abebe is a first-year student at UWC RBC, passionate about uncovering the hidden battle the brain fights. Growing up in a neighborhood where addiction led to homelessness and stigma, she saw firsthand the harsh judgments faced by those struggling. Determined to shed light on the science behind these struggles, her TEDTalk, "The Brain’s Secret Battle: Inside Addiction’s Grip," takes the audience on a captivating journey through the brain's intricate reward system. She breaks down complex neuroscience into digestible insights, showing how substances hijack the brain’s natural processes. Her talk isn’t just about understanding addiction, it’s a call for empathy, prevention, and the power of recovery. Through this, she hopes to shift perspectives and offer hope to those navigating the challenging path of addiction.
