Dhaka University Witnesses Its First TEDx Event in Its 104-Year History. TEDx is a grassroots initiative, created in the spirit of TED’s overall mission to research and discover “ideas worth spreading.” TEDx brings the spirit of TED to local communities around the globe through TEDx events. These events are organized by passionate individuals who seek to uncover new ideas and to share the latest research in their local areas that sparks conversations in their communities. TEDxUniversity of Dhaka was the first such event that took place at Dhaka University on the 25th of October, 2025. Orchestrated at the TSC auditorium with youthful audience members. The theme for this year's event was "Bangladesh Reborn: Progress Through Perspectives," adhering to the spirit of the July Revolution and its aftermath to a new Bangladesh. There were a number of 12 speakers, such as Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan, Huma Khan, Nayeem Ashraf, Ashfaque Nipun, Monoshita Ayruani, Ziaur Rahman, Azmeri Haque Badhon, Kebria Sarker, Jobayer Hossain Shuvo, Rony Sharafat, Ar. Nazli Hossain, Habiba Akter Shurovy, and several other guest speakers, such as Wasik Sajid Khan, Lecturer of Japanese Studies; Dr. Firdous Zareen; and Humor Tablet’s Mashfiq Enam Turjo. The advisory panel also had their remarks, which included Sayeda Lasna Kabir, Chairman, Department of Public Administration, and Md. Robiul Islam, lecturer of Public Administration. Recently elected VP of DUCSU, Sadik Kayem also delivered a short talk expressing his willingness to support more of such events. There was a violin concert, a dance performance, and a band concert by DUBS. Shahjalal Islami Bank held the title of Platinum Sponsor, while Fresh Anonna Sanitary Napkin was the Gold Sponsor, and the Bronze Sponsor was UPL. As it was the very first TEDx event on Dhaka University premises, the enthusiasm among the students was particularly noticeable. The same goes for the teachers and other guests. This event marks the beginning of an international event within Dhaka University and mobilized the curiosity and the idea of spreading ideas among the students. The spark of the event and the initiative came from Md. Imam Hossain Shihab, licensee and lead organizer of TEDxUniversity of Dhaka. The event was a successful precedent of student-led initiatives, as it had an overwhelming amount of positive reactions from people of different backgrounds, both online and offline. Thus, a milestone for Dhaka University is achieved through “Ideas worth spreading.”
