The Power of Unlearning

Took placeOctober 11, 20251:00 PM - 7:00 PM (GMT+3)
LocationAthens, Attiki, Greece

We are born into a world filled with assumptions, patterns, and rules –many of which go unquestioned. But what if everything you’ve been taught isn’t the full picture? UNLEARN challenges us to strip away outdated beliefs, preconceived notions, and societal norms that limit our potential. It’s about the courage to let go, the curiosity to question, and the boldness to rebuild. In this era of rapid change, innovation isn't about learning more-it's about unlearning the old to make space for new. It’s about unlocking new ways of thinking, doing, and being. UNLEARN is a call to action for students, creatives, thinkers and dreamers to disrupt the status quo, shatter the boundaries, and reimagine what’s possible when we free ourselves from the confines of what we’ve been taught. At TEDxDereeACG, we invite you to join this journey of unlearning. Let’s dismantle, deconstruct and redefine everything from success to identity, from education to innovation, and beyond. Only by unlearning can we begin to rebuild a future that is truer, bolder, and more inclusive.

  • Elpida Bograkou

    CEO at White Canvas Athens

Elpida’s story is one many can relate to, even if the details are different, a personal journey of growth, loss, and self-discovery. She was adopted into a loving home and grew up believing that working hard and following the rules, life would go as planned. But after losing both parents by 21, she found herself navigating life without directions. She pushed forward—excelling in school, career, and relationships—but beneath the surface, she was struggling. Over time, she realized that real growth didn’t come from doing more, but from unlearning harmful beliefs: that love means endurance, that rest is laziness, and that asking for help is weakness. Through therapy and reflection, she began to rebuild her life—not around what others expected, but around what felt honest and right for her. Her talk is a powerful reminder that we don’t have to stay tied to the scripts we were given. We can choose to rewrite them, and ourselves, at any time.
