TEDxMoretonBay is an independently organised event, licensed by TED and supported by 500 Hours, Moreton Bay Arts Council and Moreton Bay Regional Council. The theme for TEDxMoretonBay is community - creativity - change. Our program is designed to provoke and entertain. We hope to not just get people talking, but also find the inspiration and motivation they need to contribute to positive change in their own communities.

  • Marcus Westbury

    Marcus Westbury is the founder of Renew Newcastle and Renew Australia. His background is a broadcaster, writer, media maker and festival director who is responsible for some of Australia’s more innovative, unconventional and successful cultural projects and events. He has worked across a range of media as a writer, producer, director and presenter, covering fields as diverse as culture, art, urban planning, media, sport and politics. In 2008, with his own funds and energy, Marcus founded Renew Newcastle, a low budget, not for profit, DIY urban renewal scheme that has brokered access to more than 30 empty buildings for more than 70 creative enterprises, artists and cultural projects in his hometown of Newcastle, NSW.

  • Bettina Nissen

    Folk tales don’t beat about the bush. They have always told us about the hard times – poverty, heartbreak and injustice – and celebrate the creativity of communities to address these inequities with wry humour. Deception Bay’s Bettina Nissen will treat you to a story (they’re not just for kids) and explore the idea of folk tales in a contemporary context.
