Jamela Alindogan
Correspondent at Al Jazeera Media Network and Co-founder of Sinagtala Center for Children and Women in Conflict
Jamela Alindogan is an award-winning correspondent of Al Jazeera English for over fifteen years. She covers the Philippines and most of South East Asia. She has reported on elections in Indonesia and Malaysia, protests in Vietnam and Cambodia and has reported exclusively in many conflict areas most specially in the troubled region of Mindanao in the southern Philippines. Exposure to the aftermath of war that has destroyed communities has impelled her to co-found Sinagtala Centre For Women and Children in Conflict, a group that sends aid to women and children in conflict zones with a focus on war survivors in Mindanao. She was honoured by the Swedish Foreign Ministry and UNESCO, along with nine other female journalists from around the world for courageous reporting of the Philippines' drug war in 2016 in Stockholm. And in 2018, she was awarded the Ten Outstanding Young Filipinos Award or TOYM for International Journalism.
