  • Shay Nair Sharma

Shay Nair Sharma is a junior at Franklin High School and has a passion for research, advocacy, and community service. He loves scientific discovery and has presented with tremendous success at Teen Biotech Challenge, Spark Research Scholar, Sacramento STEM Fairs, and MESA events - to name just a few. In his high school the field of electronics interested him so much, that when a club was not available to join, he spearheaded a movement to form one and has created opportunities for students and the community to learn circuits and programming. He advocated for skin cancer awareness by submitting revisions to curriculum standards that reformed the Health Framework for California Public Schools. He is this year’s recipient of the Elk Grove Mayor’s Volunteer Award for Young Volunteer of the Year. Shay wants other students in the community to succeed and enjoy their community as well, and he volunteers on the Elk Grove Youth Commission, to organize events and projects for the youth. In his spare time he relaxes with diverse activities of calligraphy, archery, hiking, and Taekwondo.
