In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations). The power of TEDx resides not just in the speakers on stage, but also in the attendees, the planners, and all those who support TED's vision. These individuals take action to make the ideas of TEDx resonate throughout the Lakeland community and beyond. TEDxLakeland is designed to bring together thought leaders from Lakeland and central Florida in order to generate, share, and explore ideas for creating a better community and world. We will make connections; share ideas for creating a better and more sustainable community, and look at ways to communicate our ideas to members of our own community and the broader world. In organizing or participating in this event, we hope to achieve the following objectives: • To create an enduring TEDx experience that educates and inspires • To foster connections among various sectors of the college and the broader community • To bring together innovators and explorers, encouraging them to share their ideas and vision • To inspire participants to action that creates a better college, community, and world • To nurture and encourage ideas for the responsible and respectful use of resources and talents The theme for this year's event is Create, Connect, Communicate. This broad theme brings together concepts that are essential to living in today's world. Each concept can stand alone, but they intersect in diverse and constantly changing ways. Speakers may explore the concepts individually or look at how they come together in various ways, but ultimately, we hope that each person’s unique perception contributes to the overall understanding of how these concepts generate "ideas worth spreading"; ideas that will lead to a more vibrant community and a more peaceful and sustainable world. We look forward to sharing some great ideas worth spreading at TEDxLakeland. We hope that you will join us.
