Kent Godfrey
Artist, Scholar, Teacher
Kent is a special education teacher and an artist. He holds degrees in clowning, theatre, and dance studies. His focus in life has been to work with disabled people in arts-related capacities such as describing plays to blind patrons, performing in a deaf theatre company, and teaching the performing arts. For the past 15 years, Kent has been developing teaching methods and theories for deaf and autistic people to experience the components of music through senses in addition to sound. The most valuable experience of his life was his 2-year Peace Corps tour on the island of St. Lucia where he taught the performing arts to children with various disabilities. Creativity, exploration, and play are central to his life. When he’s not giving TEDx talks Kent likes to hike, cook, and dance.
Tejus Krishnan
Student, Musician, Writer
Tejus considers himself qualified in this topic because for one thing, piano has always been a longtime passion of mine alongside other creative arts, and he has always sought a platform to explain my process behind approaching it the way he does. He doesn't use sheet music and really just rely on inspiration from what he hears to extemporaneously craft his own pieces, and find the process that has led him to that level to be an interesting subject matter. Furthermore, he finds his psychology class curriculum to be fascinating, especially with how its scientific research on behavior ties into all our daily lives and how he can relate it to experiences in his own life with what they learn in class. Including elements of its content in his speech will allow him to imbue his rather abstract speech content with a sense of scientific purpose and further push the conference's theme of humanity by exploring both innate thoughts and behaviors through both artistic and scientific explanation.
