• Andrew Peterson

  Professor of Education

  Andrew Peterson is Professor of civic and moral education at Canterbury Christ Church University, England. He has written widely on the subjects of civics and citizenship education, character education, history education and education for global citizenship. He is particularly interested in the ways in which schools and other educational institutions cultivate active and responsible citizens in times when other pressures act in competition with such a goal. Andrew will be speaking at #TEDxMargate on the topic of Solidarity, What is it and why should schools educate for it?

• Craig Milsted

  Chemist

  Craig is a chemist working for a large ink manufacturing firm on the East Kent coast. He works in research, development and analytical science. He will be discussing the hidden chemistry behind some well known works of art, myth busting at its finest!

• Daniel Hajas

  Science and physics

  Daniel Hajas lost his sight at the age of 17, for reasons that still elude his doctors. Born in Hungary, and living in Croatia at the time. Daniel didn’t let this stop him from pursuing his dreams. In 2013, he packed two suitcases and moved to Brighton, UK, to attend the University of Sussex. Around the time he lost his sight, he had began falling in love with science and physics, and he was set on continuing down that road. Existing technology enables independent reading, writing, but dealing with mathematical notation is still not easy. Screen readers are helpful for literature based subjects, but if your literature says “As seen in figure 1…“, then what? How do you move on from there? Daniel will be sharing his story and addressing questions like ‘how can we use technology to make graphs and images a useful extra resource for those without sight, rather than a source of frustration?’

• Nicola Shaughnessy Melissa Trimingham

  Academic -Drama

  Imagining Autism: Think Differently Imagining Autism: Thinking Differently Nicola Shaughnessy and Melissa Trimingham are mothers of autistic sons. They are also academics at the University of Kent and drama research practitioners who have developed a unique participatory theatre and workshop method for engaging with autistic children. Here they invite you, perhaps unexpectedly, to think differently about interacting with autism through the creative imagination. ​

• Nige and Elloa Atkinson

  Coach

  Nige and Elloa Atkinson coach individuals and groups and facilitate workshops to support men around the world to understand more about themselves and women to understand more about men. Nige and Elloa are known for their ability to shake up the status quo, their honesty and their insightfulness into the human condition. We are thrilled to announce they will be speaking and sharing some of their research at TEDxMargate 2017
