• William Alsup

  William Alsup is an avid photographer and lover of nature. He is also the author of "Missing in the Minarets: The Search for Walter A. Starr, Jr." about the mysterious disappearance of a San Francisco attorney from a prominent family who went missing in the jagged Minarets region of the Sierra Nevada in the summer of 1933. Bill demonstrated the large-format film photography method using film and silver gelatin that is quickly becoming a lost art in our modern world of digital photography.

• Dave Hitz

  Dave Hitz is a co-founder and executive vice president of NetApp, Inc. But before starting his career in the computer industry, he worked as a cowboy, gaining valuable management experience by herding, branding, and castrating cattle. He is the author of "How to Castrate a Bull - Unexpected Lessons on Risk, Growth, and Success in Business." Dave presented a talk entitled "Are Corporate Values Yucky?"

• Edward Reines

  Edward Reines is humbled by the blessings that have been gifted to him. He was raised in Great Neck, NY in a loving and tight family of seven that hit some roadbumps and bounced higher. He is an intellectual property attorney who loves his profession. He moved to San Francisco and first fell in love with the city and then fell in love with his wife, Joya. Ed has two boys, Max and Miles, who make every day interesting and worthwhile. He loves rock n' roll, playing sports, and going to sporting events. He does not work hard enough to appreciate all that he has, but aspires to do so. Ed presented a talk entitled "The Magic of Appreciation -- and How We Are Seduced Daily to Take Our Blessings for Granted."

• Steve Carlson

  Steve Carlson is a partner of the law firm Fish & Richardson. Steve discussed the anthropology classic "The Gift" as experienced through his Peace Corps tour in the mountains of rural Morocco, as well as in the legal community of Silicon Valley. Steve shared lessons learned in the worlds of food and hospitality from his backyard, with his citrus and herb collection, coffee roaster, and self-constructed cold smoker. His talk is entitled "Always Pack a Warm Lunch for the Road."

• Sarah Gill

  Sarah Gill is the creator and founder of The Inspired Cookie. She is also the author of "Beginners' Vegan Guide: Restaurants, Recipes & Resources" about incorporating a vegan, gluten-free diet into your life. Sarah spoke about how important it is to LIVE life and see each day as an opportunity to share LOVE.

• Henry Oh

  Henry Oh has a JD but does not practice law. He also has a guitar and actually practices that. He's done a lot of things. Some well. Some not. However, he has a curious mind and likes to think that everything is a learning experience. He's been in Asia for the past five years, founding an Internet startup and a non-profit that helps startup entrepreneurs. Henry's talk is entitled "Inspiration from Unlikely Sources."

• David Weekly

  David Weekly is the founder of PBWorks, a founding director of Hacker Dojo, and enjoys flying helicopters. He also likes dancing in a banana suit. David encouraged everyone to write science fiction as inspiration for technology of the future in a talk entitled "Go Write Some Sci-Fi!"

• Becca Lipon

  Becca Lipon is a software engineer by day and the lead singer of the ensemble group Sinister Dexter by night. She believes that the trend of young adults waiting until their 30s to marry is a positive trend--not a negative one (as argued by writers like Kay Hymowitz)--reflecting the empowerment of women of our generation. Her talk is entitled "Debunking the Myth of Pre-Adulthood."

• Mark Christian

  Mark Christian owns what is perhaps the largest collection of Laserdisc movies west of the Mississippi. Mark is concerned that the rapid pace of technological change (and the inherent instability of digital technology) is dooming us to a future case of amnesia about our present history. We have leather-bound books of land surveys and laws from a thousand years ago, but we can't read data tapes with scientific measurements from the first moon landing. In his talk entitled "Long-Lived Data," he explored this issue in the context of the BBC's Domesday Project.

• Matt Johnson

  Matt Johnson wants to change the way people migrate around the world. As an economic migrant himself, he saw firsthand the gulf between the ease with which people from developed countries migrate and the difficulty, friction, cost, pain, and suffering faced by migrants from developing countries. Matt is an entrepreneur in San Francisco. He has been a speaker and mentor for budding entrepreneurs at Berkeley and Harvard Business Schools and is a graduate of Brown. Matt gave a talk entitled "Global Migration -- Humanity's Best Opportunity."
