  • Anil Bhatnagar

    ‘Genuine Harmony’ - The destination of a dream of Anil Bhatnagar, a man who has the vision to redraw the map of this state to make a much better one, of which, every citizen residing in Himachal Pradesh can be proud of. Anil’s Philosophy is that – “Everybody in life has some kind of a fright and it has to be overcome just once by taking just that one step and you will realize it has completely changed and enriched your life.” Anil is an experienced ex-businessman who has worked in different capacities in various companies. He believes in giving back to the society what it did for him by providing his services for their welfare. This is what led him to become the director of Cross Cultural Solutions and now he runs ‘Harmony Through Education India Trust’ , a special needs school in Dharamsala. He is still doing the good work.

  • Saroj Thakur

    What do we do with all the information we acquire? Does it all make our lives better? Are we truly wise? Listen to Saroj Thakur talk about what to do with ALL the information at our finger tips in order to become truly knowlegable and wise through a process of introspective self learning. Shimal’s own, Saroj Thakur realised while treckking through the himalayas that there was elusive wisdom to be found among what we consider ‘common’ folk! she realised that wisdom lies in taking small steps in whatevr manner we can using very basic common sense to make the world a better palce to live in, leaving behind trails that others may follow. A fellow at IIAS Shimal (2009-2010) , she has been teaching at National Institute of Technology for the past 29 yrs and shares her writings ang blogs on topics that matter to her the most from her home in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh.

  • Tenzin Nyima

    Tenzin Nyima was born and brought up at McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala. She did her schooling from Tibetan Children’s Village School, Upper Dharamsala and continued her studies and did Bachelors degree in English Literature from St.Bedes College, Shimla and topped in her college. She then did Masters in Human Resource Management from Pune University. She actively participated in co-curricular activities viz. cultural(Tibetan dance and Indian semi-classical dance), academic( elocution, debate,quiz, essay and poetry competition etc) and sports which she think is important beside what one does in school and college. She has been working at the Central Tibetan Administration for two years. She takes charge of Tibet Corps, an important program of the current Cabinet and also work as a protocol officer sometimes. She is an artist and loves writing and reading poetry, performance arts ( Tibetan and Indian semi-classical dance)

  • Dr Manu Noatay

    What does women’s empowerment mean to you? A bunch of government policies, electoral promises, CSR agendas? Dr Manu Noatay believes that high-spirited women and the families they come from could form the core of an empowered and fair society. She asks us to imagine a world where everyone is treated equally, and aspires to see the strong, independent and respected women of her mind’s eyes become a reality of the modern world. With regard to her medical fieldwork, Dr Noatay says, “We have an opportunity by making sure every woman is safe from cancer of cervix, there is also a scope to generate employment for almost 2,000 women across the nation, create healthy transitions from scared shy women to empowered soul sisters…” Dr Noatay is a histopathologist and molecular pathologist. She currently runs a pan-India population-based cervical cancer screening programme from a laboratory in New Delhi. She believes in a society of mutual inspiration and cooperation between rich and poor, rural and urban – where we are defined not by where we come from but where we are going..

  • Sunil Rana

    How rich and diverse is folk culture, music and arts ? Why is folk losing its importance and why is important to preserve the folk art ? A story to be told is a journey to be experienced ! Sunil Rana, shares that the richness of any folk music/art lies in the depth of its culture and the diversity of each folk culture is well expressed through music and arts ! Today he imagines to bridge the gap between the native lands and the international communities and sees how a platform like TEDXDharamsala could bring one’s dream into a reality. Sunil Rana, an artist by passion and profession, has spend most of his life on the himalayan foothills and is one of the indigenous artist who brought some limelight to the Gaddi Tribe through his folk songs. His integrity lies in the taste of original dialect in his songs. Hi initial audition to voice out on All India Radio channel, lead him to reach out a larger crowd who recognised his style and the essence of his songs !
