[Smart today, leading tomorrow] “Smart” started to take a deep root on our normal days of life. For example, “Smart Phone”, “Smart TV”, “Smart Uniform”, “Smart Academy”, etc. People used the word “Smart” to describe something as a modern, fresh thing. As you can see from here, smart doesn’t just mean clever or neat now. It became a word that means unique, creative, future oriented, and leading. For instance, many succeeded leader like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Steven Spielberg were smart people. They led people in to new achievements and always tried creative ideas. Plus, modern items like mobile phones and televisions are named “Smart” to show the consumer how unique and new those things are. But as the meaning of “Smart” has changed in to various types of positive words, people are now more willing to be smart. The fundamental reason of it is that society wants more “smart” people to join them as time passes. And this reason is also linked with the problem about students in stress. Since society wants smart people, many students work hard to be smart. First of all they study for dear life, and then they participate in various artistic activities. Moreover they do voluntary services not as a volunteer, but as an obeying to the command. If this effect continues, the meaning of “Smart” could change in to different meanings like stressful or hard. What TEDxCheongdam wants to do is to bring back the right meaning of “Smart” and make people participate in making new smart ideas. Whether the idea is positive or negative or even neutral, they will be creative, unique and future oriented ideas. We believe that “Smart” is probably the most fascinating word ever. It is like a bidirectional poster: how you understand the word depends on your point of view.
