Deep beneath the Earth sits 50,000 times more energy than all the world's fossil fuel reserves, but accessing it requires using the same controversial technology that oil companies spent trillions to develop: fracking. Cindy Taff left Shell to prove that drilling for geothermal heat instead of hydrocarbons can deliver what solar, wind and fossil fuels can't — clean, renewable power at all times, regardless of weather. Could this be the breakthrough that finally solves our energy challenges?

How to power the world 24/7 — without oil

A vast energy source lies beneath our feet, storing 50,000 times more energy than all oil and gas reserves combined. By adapting the drilling and fracking techniques pioneered by the oil industry, next-generation geothermal can deliver clean energy 24 hours a day, regardless of sun or wind. This approach turns legacy fossil fuel know-how into a climate solution, offering reliable power for everything from homes to data centers. With rapid scaling, geothermal could meet nearly all global electricity and heating needs by 2050.

Tapping Earth’s Hidden Heat Can Power the World Nonstop

The Earth holds 50,000 times more usable energy than all fossil fuel reserves, waiting to be tapped deep underground. By adapting advanced drilling and fracking technologies from oil and gas, it is possible to access this vast, always-on geothermal resource. Unlike wind and solar, geothermal energy provides clean power 24/7, regardless of weather. If scaled, it could meet nearly all global electricity and heating needs by 2050.
