Bio

During my years serving as Director of the Anxiety Disorders Treatment Program at UCSF, I grew to understand anxiety and fear as highly adaptive emotions that enable our readiness for future threats though powerful mechanisms of neuroplasticity. How can we better harness such helpful (albeit uncomfortable) states to enhance performance? I've spent the last 10 years of my career building the answer to that question. I educate clinicians, community providers and the lay-public about the neurocircuitry of fear and anxiety.

I'm passionate about

Educating the community about our ancestral neural responses to uncertainty and complexity - namely our tendency to create false dichotomies. How does humanity become more intentional and resilient when it comes to navigating change in a complex world? Can we learn to live humbly with uncertainty before it’s too late?

An idea worth spreading

Don't fear your fear. Harness it. It's yours.
