Bio
I was born in Spain and studied Medicine, specializing in Clinical Pharmacology, worked as a physician for four years in Madrid, before starting my career of more than 30 years in the pharmaceutical industry.
I'm married and have two daughters.
I joined Merck in 2011 as COO and in 2015 I was named CEO of Merck Heathcare and member of the Merck Group's Executive Committee.
I'm Member of the Board for L'Oreal, BBVA and PhRMA and belong to the New York Academy of Science.
I'm passionate about
helping patients - by working in areas of unmet needs, discovering new molecules, advancing innovations, and supporting all who touch patient lives, including caregivers.
An idea worth spreading
Immunotherapy! By harnessing the immune system, immunotherapy aims to activate or augment the body’s natural response to fight diseases, such as cancer.

The TED story
Last November, we hosted our first TED@Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany event in London, featuring some of our employees and their amazing ideas. This year, we are focusing on The Art of Possibility for our event in November.
Additionally, one of my daughters was a speaker at TED@Tommy and her talk is now available on ted.com about working mothers from the child's perspective while growing up.
