I'm passionate about
I love to inspire people.
One of the happiest moments in my life was during a TEDx pitch night. The organizer came to me and asked if I would give a pitch about something. So I talked about classical music, and after my pitch, something amazing happened. One member of the audience came to me and said: "Jens, I'm inspired. Tomorrow, I'm going to listen to classical music".
An idea worth spreading
When I was a kid, I never could sleep; my head was always full of thoughts and I could never stop thinking.
At some point, I decided it was enough. I've searched the web, watched a ton of TED talks and came across meditation. I gave it a try and it changed my life. My consciousness expanded and it gave some much more clarity in my head.
Before I discovered meditation, my head was a chaos. After meditation, I was able to filter my thoughts through a sort of pipeline; it starts with one end on the left, where my thoughts were coming in, and ended with two ends at the right, where I'm able to decide whether I want to do something with these thoughts or not.
It also gave me a lot of other advantages. It extended my rationality, stimulated my love for food, improved my concentration and it gave me a peace of mind.
Mindfulness (a form of meditation) thought me to enjoy the little things in life. For example, when having breakfast, the only thing you need to do is to concentrate on your food. Focus on the texture, the temperature, the taste when it's on your tongue. Don't search for your next bite when you still have your food in your mouth, but just enjoy it.
Another benefit is gaining more control of my emotions. Before a solo concert in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, I found myself standing in line for a coffee and a guy was cut me off. Since I was in a hurry, I felt such an anger towards him. Instead of letting these emotions get to me, I was able to see these emotions in my pipeline and I had time to let those thoughts go.
Meditation has so many benefits, and it takes literally nothing to practice it. Nowadays, there are dozens of meditation apps to get you started. But you don't need an app for that and it will only take 5 minutes of your time and it doesn't matter if it is in the morning, evening or if you have a small break. Set your alarm clock for 5 minutes, sit on a comfortable chair (or your meditation pillow) and focus only on your breathing. How does the air go in through your nose/mouth? How does it fill your lungs? Does it go through your chest or stomach?
The principle is really simple; just focus on 1 thing and 1 thing only. Whether it is that you only concentrate on the taste of your food, your music, or just your breathing, meditation makes your life better.

The TED story
Together with my friends, we used to love to talk and discuss TED talks. At one time, we decided to go to a TEDx event. Before the event started, the organizer came to us and said: "Try to get one - just one - idea today, and try to implement it into your life and you'll be amazed". And that was exactly what happened. Since then, I've attended TEDx events and side events and watched a hundred TED talks online, and I never stopped loving the concept.
