Bio
I am a writer/photographer/filmmaker/fine artist that found myself mixed up in TEDx in 2016.
In 2018 I founded Paper Letter Exchange, an organization that encourages connecting with others by establishing a long term pen-pal relationship and helps facilitate and foster such relationships with kits, archiving, and a soon to be launched interactive website.
For a period of 3 years I traveled to every US major city that had a mass transportation system with my former position at the US Department of Transportation in Washington, DC. An assignment placed me a few blocks from the World Trade Center towers in downtown NYC on 9/11/01. A series of film photographs I subsequently took were published in a book as part of a larger collection by Harper-Collins and raised money for the NYC Firefighters Victim Burn Center. US Dep’t of Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta honored me with a certificate of Outstanding Achievement. My photographs went on a year-long 9-city national tour before being inducted into the NY Public Library for permanent archive in 2004.
Since leaving the government sector behind in Washington, DC mid-2003, I have been a US-based still + motion photographer and writer for a range of publications. I had studied illustration and filmmaking at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA where I minored in creative writing. I am currently based outside of Philadelphia although my 2nd passport tugs at me! I photograph special events, food and wine, and still life for magazines and advertising both on location and in the studio.
I am also a writer and researcher on disinformation and misinformation and am working with a project that aims to be a beacon of truth in an age of information chaos: http://www.realityteam.org
When I am not traveling, I enjoy volunteering with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America and TEDxVail in Colorado. We are creating 28 twice-weekly virtual conversations focusing on COVID and Climate change from July through October 2020, please visit http://TEDxVail.com to learn more and join one! I reviewed films on an international podcast for two years and have done voiceover work for XM Satellite Radio and others. I've studied under philosopher Dr. Jean Houston for many years and have absorbed the research of Dr. Elaine Aron about the physiological trait of Highly Sensitive People / Sensory Processing Sensitivity. In my spare time, I love playing the piano, watching espionage films, educating the public about and advocating for climate impact response as a 2020 Climate Reality Leader through Vice President Al Gore's initiative Climate Reality Project (https://www.climaterealityproject.org), and working toward my pilot's license.

The future is analog. The more technology drives our society, the more our souls crave tangibility: photographs, vinyl records, a handwritten letter from a loved one.

The TED story
In 2017 I decided to step up to the plate to assist with tasks that were in my wheelhouse that our local organization was in great need of someone taking the reigns on. I lent my copy editing, web programming, newsletter layout and design, and SEO and social media marketing / management skills to TEDxWilmington, quickly carving out a role for myself.
Our TEDxWilmington organization put on 12 events in 2017 alone and saw 172 speakers on our various stages throughout the city! Our YouTube channel recently hit 28million views!! I spoke for the first time at the Age of Amazement event on Apr 28th 2018 that was in conjunction with TED2018; 24 live speakers (including me! And David Raymond who invented the Phillie Phanatic and wore the mascot for close to 20 years!) on our stage and of course streamed highlights from Vancouver.
In 2020, I co-organized and co-hosted 20 weekly global sing-a-longs for other TEDx organizers with Richard Lucas of TEDxKazimierz in Poland, and am volunteering with Kat Haber of TEDxVail in Colorado. We are creating 28 twice-weekly virtual conversations focusing on COVID and Climate change on Wednesdays and Sundays from July through October 2020, please visit http://TEDxVail.com to learn more and join one!
