Bio

I am from Ecuador, and I am a Microbiologist. I truly believe Microbes are the source of solutions for almost all the problems as a society we created. For example, the use of microbes for bioremediation of oil spills, or the use of microbes as an alternative for pesticides, finally, microbes as a source of food. Now a days I am working as the Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor in a Pharmaceutical Industry, James Brown Pharma. I discover my passion for microbes during an entrepreneurship contest in San Francisco, California. Few months later I discover my other big passion, communication of knowledge, through TEDx events. I started as an attendee to TEDxQuito every year. Then as a speaker for TEDxParqueelejidoMujeres with a talk about microbes, finally as a volunteer coorganizing TEDxPUCE 2019, and as a curator in TEDxLaFloresta 2020, TEDxPUCE 2021 and TEDxLaFloresta 2021. TEDx community has given me the opportunity to be part of the biggest community of sharing ideas worth spreading. TEDx combines my two passions in one: science communication.

An idea worth spreading

Microbiology is the source of solutions for the biggest problems we create as a society: - Air pollution (green microalgae transforming C02 in O2 three times as fast as an entire forest) - Microbes used in order to decrease the amount of soil pollution (micorrhizal fungi and bacteria which use oil as the Carbon source for their metabolism) - Microbes used as an alternative to pesticides (fungi that compite againts soil pathogens and give the plant more chances to survive an infection) The examples go on... Microbes have always been the rulers of our world, they not only represent infection diseases, more than that, they are the source of solutions. We as a society are only the temporary passengers. I truly believe mother nature already has the answer, it is time we learn from microbes how to be part of Earth without destroying it.

The TED story

I started as an attendee to TEDxQUITO from 2013 to 2015. I was invited as a speaker in TEDxParqueelEjidoMujeres 2017 to talk about microbes as invisible beings serving the society. I was co-organizer of TEDxPUCE 2019 in charge of Speakers and Curation. I was an advisor of Curation in TEDxLaFloresta 2020 and in TEDxPUCE 2021. I was a coorganizer in charge of Speakers and Curation in TEDxLaFloresta 2022 with the collaboration of UNICEF. Currently, I am a co-organizer and I am in charge of curation in TEDxPUCE 2023.
