Ian Clarke

An Irish-Ugandan physician, entrepreneur, philanthropist & politician, Dr. Clarke arrived as a missionary doctor in Uganda & went on to establish the International Medical Group, the largest private healthcare provider in Uganda. He is the owner and Executive Chairman of Clarke Group, Ltd. which has interests in education, hospitality and agribusiness. He has had extensive experience in establishing indigenous start-up businesses and growing them to a corporate level. During April 2011-April 2016, Dr. Clarke served as the Mayor of Makindye Division, one of the five administrative units of Kampala. He is the Founding Chairman of Uganda Healthcare Federation, Director at East Africa Healthcare Federation, & Director at Africa Healthcare Federation. He is also a Board member at the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU). Dr. Clarke writes a weekly column in the New Vision, the National Newspaper of Uganda, and has authored 3 books.
