Chuck founded TravelSmith and Living Goods, and serves as and Senior Advisor to TPG’s Rise Fund, a $5+ billion impact investing platform. Living Goods has been featured as an Audacious Idea at TED. Chuck earned a BA in Architecture and Masters in Public and Private Management from Yale. In 1991 he founded TravelSmith a leading travel gear company. As a private equity investor, he has participated in the acquisition of over $2 billion in consumer businesses. In 2006 he created Living Goods, which supports 10,000 digitally-empowered community health providers who provide health care on-call delivered to the doorsteps of over 6 million people in Africa. Two randomized studies show this platform is reducing child mortality by over 25%, for less than $3 per person reached. Living Goods' Smart Health app automates diagnoses, enables managers to optimize the performance of thousands of health workers in in remote villages, and provides real-time, auditable data to health ministries and funders. Chuck serves on the boards of Yale’s School of Management, Tidepool, Reach Health, and the Horace W Goldsmith Foundation. He received a Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, an Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, a Draper Richards Kaplan Fellowship, and is a World Economic Forum Social Entrepreneur of the Year. Chuck was named a Yale SOM Donaldson Fellow in 2015.
