Janet Esquirol

Designer, Educator/Teacher

Professor Esquirol is a Creative Director and devoted Educator. Her professional background includes full service ad campaigns for national and regional clients, Art Direction for weekly publications with distribution from Manhattan to Montauk, as well as UI, UX, and web development for not-for-profits. Her personal artwork is informed by her interests in preservation both historical and environmental, but her daily motivation is focused on education - whether for clients, students or her local community. Janet began teaching in Higher Education at Parsons in 2003 and has since instructed and helped shape curriculum at several institutions in NYC, including SUNY FIT, Pratt, and Parsons. At BMCC, in addition to teaching Multimedia Arts, she has been involved in the procurement and administration of a $6M Federal 5-year grant, "DOE HSI Digital Pathways," which brings STEM and college preparation to historically underserved high school students. She has been an invited technology speaker for events at SUNY, CUNY, and the FATE conference.

After following TED Talks avidly online for years, I grew more and more interested — until I just had to get involved! I became passionate about the in-person experience, meeting speakers and audience members for live conversations, so I have served as Creative Director for TEDxFultonStreet in Manhattan since 2014!
