About Shelby
Bio
Shelby is a Pilot in the United States Navy.
She's traveled the world, flown the Secretary of Defense and Vice President of the United States, skiied down Mt Fuji, and discovered herself through work ranging from missile defense programs to ending rebel group conflict in Northern Uganda. This chapter of her life is a stepping stone for the next.
While she could write about her military career and accomplishments-she'd rather learn about yours and how she can use the knowledge, training, and leadership skills from her experience to make future innovations in Africa, a home to the most spectacular influencer on her life.
She can't wait to be inspired and awed by your stories.
I'm passionate about
Ice cream. There is no simpler joy than seeing someones face when they get an ice cream cone with their favorite flavor and they sit on a bench and stop for a moment and just enjoy a cold scoop.
Helicopters. How can we use them in remote regions? To protect wildlife-to deliver medicine-to transport-to rescue.
Orphans. Discovering the difference that a stable environment with a family, proper nutrition, love, and education could bring to one child vs one that remains in an orphanage or foster care system until the age of 18.
Tiny Spaces. In a materialistic world-its nearly impossible to go back to the basics. What does it take to find inner peace and happiness? Does less really mean more.
An idea worth spreading
What if we made international adoption local? What would it be like if local communities viewed adoption of an orphan as a societal norm and not taboo? What if a child was adopted and raised in their community instead of plucked from one region of the world and transported to another completely unfamiliar to them. And what if those children were given the opportunity to be raised in a stable environment in their local community-how would they develop and grow? What difference could they make in their home? What better life would not only be provided for them but for generations to come because of their story, their passion to bring about change in their own home-not someone elses.
