Jorge Drexler Jorge Drexler was born in Montevideo, Uruguay on September 21, 1964. In 1992 he was licensed as doctor in Medicine in Uruguay. In the early 90's he started writing songs and working on what would be his first album. As of today, the singer-songwriter has 13 albums and 25 years of career; with 15 nominations to the Latin Grammy, of which he won 2, 2014 Record of the year and Best singer-songwriter Album, he also has 4 nominations to the US Grammy Awards and he won an Oscar for Best Original Song "Al otro lado del río" in 2005 for the movie "The motorcycle diaries". This was the first time a song written in Spanish won an Academy Award.
