Bio

Baria Daye is an Operations Officer at the World Bank in Washington DC. She works on sustainable development and safeguard policies through the implementation of the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework (ESF). The ESF aims to protect people and the environment in all investment projects that the World Bank finances in its operations around the world. Prior to her current assignment, Baria worked on the World Bank’s ease of doing business index with a focus on startup and construction regulation. Doing Business is an annual flagship report that provides objective measures of SME regulation and their enforcement across 190 economies around the world. Prior to joining the World Bank, Baria served as a gender policy advocate in Lebanon and as manager of Partner Relations at the World Summit on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She attended executive programs on women entrepreneurship and decision-making at Uppsala University, Maastricht School of Management, and Harvard University Extension School. In September 2018, Baria completed Singularity University’s executive program on exponential technologies at the NASA Research Park in Silicon Valley. She is currently exploring issues related to the regulation of disruptive technologies and the intersection between human desirability, technology feasibility and business viability.
