Bio
Trained in philosophy at Pomona College, further educated in New York City through political work in the media, and later completing medical school, residency and fellowship in Tucson Arizona, I navigated through and up the ranks in academic medicine. After achieving tenure, I turned my attention to the status of women in health and in academic medicine, and learned a great deal from asking people how they defined health and what would be involved in achieving this vision. WIth an activist group, we examined the status of women in academic medicine and, with the assistance of an enlightened group of leaders, revealed overt and subtle evidence of obstacles to advancement and satisfaction faced by people who are different from the dominant group. This work resulted in substantive change in both our institution and the larger academy. I have been active locally through both informal and formal groups, including the faculty practice plan and a newly-established clinical operation at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, on a state level through a Perinatal Trust, and nationally in the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and previously in the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine and the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Recently I have been privileged to work with Worldpulse and a fledgling organization, Tucson Pathways to Health.
I'm passionate about
expanding reality
An idea worth spreading
The interplay between specialization and exchange allows development (per Matt Ridley). Who can help us understand how this phenomenon may apply from the quantum level through terrestrial life, humans, society, information and beyond? How does this all intersect with consciousness? How can we use our larger understanding to live well together?
