Mimi Cross

Born in Toronto, Canada, Mimi Cross is an author, singer, and songwriter who grew up in New Jersey. She received a Bachelor of Music from Ithaca College and an MA from the School of Education, Nursing, Health, and Arts Professions at New York University with an emphasis on Vocal Jazz. She is a performer, a New Jersey certified music educator, and worked briefly in the music industry. Before Goodbye and Shining Sea are her first two novels. She enjoys performing for the benefit of others and has played shows with many other New Jersey musicians including Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi. Her music has been used in independent films and the TV show Defiance. Mimi is also a 200-hour certified yoga instructor and the creator of Body of Writing, a practice that adds an additional dimension to the body, mind, spirit, discipline of yoga: story. Body of Writing is designed to help participants deepen their creativity and discover the stories within them by combining breath work, visualization, and specific yoga postures with powerful writing exercises.

I attended TED in Monterey, CA in 2004. It was magical. I had a wonderful time—I loved the conference. The animated short "More" was something that really stuck with me long after the conference was over, and I'll never forget making a one minute movie of Herbie Hancock while he played on a Mac with Garageband… I was kind of overloaded socially, because there were so many amazing people! Then of course there was the racetrack. The weather kept us mainly in the parking lot, but it was still so much fun. The conference inspired me for many months, years even!
