My daughters' generation, who are the most-travelled among the world's educated elites since fourth century Rome, are first and foremost globalists and therefore are struggling to re-define what it means to be "born American." Their willingness to accommodate and compromise and try on different points of view is the flexibility that America needs as we adapt to a new and different twenty-first century role in world affairs.
