An idea worth spreading

Most people agree that climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing mankind today. However, many also assume that technology alone will provide the solution. However, even aggressive rollout of new energy technologies, far faster than has ever been seen before, would not bring CO2 levels to within acceptable levels and we would still be left with a high climate risk. The reason is TIME! However innovative the new technology is, it takes time to invent, build and deploy and then grow sufficiently to make an impact. This is especially true of new energy sources (e.g. wind, solar etc.) which have historically taken 30 years to reach 1% of the total energy mix! So if we can't rely on technology alone what can be done? The answer is behavioural change - people need to consume energy more efficiently which could ‘buy’ time for new technologies to make an impact. That way, smarter energy usage today combined with new technology tomorrow could provide the solution we need.
