Melanie Cornwell is a multi-platform content creator, producer, marketer and strategist for clients/brands including WIRED, Quartz, The Hollywood Reporter, National Geographic, GQ, NPR, The Atlantic, The Economist, LAUNCH (a technology accelerator created by NASA/Nike/State Dept), Labelux, Tod's, GE, Pepsi, Condé Nast, Endeavor, Creative Commons, Common Sense Media and PBS. Previously she was Editorial Projects Director at WIRED magazine, where she built the department to extend the reach and influence of Wired’s leading-edge editorial to forums beyond the magazine, including television, online, radio, and live events. She was Executive Producer of WIRED SCIENCE, a 10-hour primetime science series hosted by Chris Hardwick on PBS; she produced the music video "Keepon Dancing to Spoon’s 'Don’t You Evah'" (directed by future Oscar winner Jeff Nichols) which was accepted as an academic publication for the 2008 International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction, and named one of the top 10 viral videos of 2007 by Entertainment Weekly; she was Executive Producer of a Wired series of daily news reports on CBS Radio and Executive Producer on three documentaries about WIRED NextFest for the Discovery Channel; she co-produced The WIRED CD: Rip. Sample. Mash. Share., a landmark Creative Commons-licensed CD featuring 16 artists such as the Beastie Boys, David Byrne, Gilberto Gil, My Morning Jacket, Danger Mouse and Cee Lo; and produced countless events, including “McCain v. Obama: The Technology Policy Smackdown”; “A WIRED Town Hall on the Climate Crisis” with Al Gore, James Hansen, Laurie David, and Lawrence Bender; “Who Owns Culture” with Jeff Tweedy and Lawrence Lessig; “The Cutting Edge: Tales from the Culinary Frontier” with Alinea chef/owner Grant Achatz and former Microsoft CTO/sous-vide guru Nathan Myhrvold; “I Heart Powerpoint” with Byrne; “The Battle Over Books: Authors and Publishers Take On Google Book Search”; WIRED in DAVOS; WIRED in CANNES; and guest editor events with Rem Koolhaas and James Cameron. Before Wired, she was a producer/strategist for clients ranging from technology and media companies to arts orgs.
