Bio

Sue Smalley, Ph.D. is Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles. As a scientist, she published 100+ papers on neurobiological differences in learning, including autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. In 2004, she founded a center at UCLA to bring mindfulness, a practice that enhances well-being, to the public through education and research and she co-authored a book, Fully Present: the science, practice and art of mindfulness, on that topic. She serves on the Board of Equality Now, an international human rights organization dedicated to women and girls and co-founded a company in 2010, Cell Ed, to bring literacy to adults using a mobile learning platform. She also serves on Gordon and Sarah Brown's High Level Panel on Education. She is a regular contributor to online communities of Psychologytoday and the Huffingtonpost on a range of topics including education, gender equality, adult literacy, and well-being.
