Bio
Hi all!!! I am a writer producer living in Nashville Tn with my wife, karin, and my daughter, alex, not to mention two dogs, petey and sadie and our over-friendly cat,Lola. Nashville has been home for over 20 years now but I have had long sojourns in NYC, Paris, Milano, and Wilmington Delaware where I grew up. My wife has a lovely company, Ironware International that imports hand forged Iron from France, she is a great entrepreneur, designer and ex-fashion model, but no dumb blonde. I am a record producer and a song- writer and we are coming to Ted for the first time grace a Jill Sobule with whom I have enjoyed a long and delightful collaboration. Jill has been raving about Ted for years now and I will finally be able to experience the wonder that is Ted first hand....I have two studios in Nashville, Alex The Great Recording and the new and huge Club Roar. The music business in Nashville is supposed to be Country but my studio partner, Brad Jones and I have been lucky to have worked steadily on a wide variety of music over the past 20 years. If you are curious you could go to alexthegreat.com and check our client list. I came to producing and engineering through being a recording artist myself. At various times I recorded for Warner Bros in Paris and Island-Ze Records in Ny, not to disparage Plug Records in Nashville.... My song writing has always been quirky and a bit out of the mainstream and I feel fortunate to have foiund such a great songwriting partner as Jill Sobule. Since we met twenty years ago I have helped write or produce on all of her records and we are still going strong.............................................. I especially enjoy developing young talent and am currently staying busy with projects that come in from all over the world. I love the fact that the music biz is now in chaos because I feel that I thrive when the bottom falls out, poetry and music do well during recession. The possibilities have never been greater for reaching large numbers of people with new and exciting music. The major labels are going down the tubes... they have missed the boat, and unless they can put the cork back in the bottle we will all continue to have "wine without bottles". There are great things a brewing that I hope I can be part of and i am saying yes to almost everything these days. On the bio front, I went to Wesleyan University but was derailed by an actress and ended up graduating from the cast of Hair in 1979. I chased skirts for years to Milano and Paris where I met a producer with a parrot on his shoulder who found me a record deal with a junkie millionaire. It was fun while it lasted but the lure of the Leisure Units and CBGBs proved to be too great so I escaped back to NYC where I had a checkered career at best.... I was jailed in Guatemala with my VietNam vet friend who was trying to "catch up" and that was fun and a movie in itself with us barely escaping with our lives, but that is enough for now because the Spinto Band is about to perform at the Mercy Lounge... ciao....
