About Karin

Bio

Growing up in Nashville, insured for me a desire to escape the South. I successfully fled to the desert for college where I quickly become passionate about cultural anthropology and art history. I am amazed that it has now been over 20 years since my return home. Why and how could this have happened? Especially strange when I consider that the last 30 years of my life has been dominated by a magical connection to France. Lucky me! A year of study abroad in Paris inadvertently led ( 3 years later) to a 5 year stint as a fashion model based in Paris. Then, after moving back to NYC and totally out of the blue, an opportunity to open a French antique store presented itself. Within a year of opening the store, the fates were conspiring yet again. An encounter with a French master blacksmith in Normandy has evolved into a now 20 year old business, based in Nashville designing and selling fantastic French hand forged iron lighting and furniture to interior designers and architects across the country. I love that I have been able to develop my own style and am honored to be able to work with such skilled artisans. Along with all of this, one wildly creative musician husband, one amazing 17 year old daughter, mom, dad, brother, sister, one very sweet cat and 2 smelly dogs. This is the concoction that has anchored me back in Nashville. With such a full life, why do I have so many sleepless nights and spend so much time worried, less than satisfied, angry? Is this more than you want to know? Oh, well. But, this is important, as this is why I am attending TED . Injustice is an issue that obsesses me. Political, social, environmental injustice. Now that I find myself in the creative cauldron of conflicts whose main ingredients are the breathing room ( and guilt) supplied by financial stability (although the pathetic dollar is putting a damper on my style) and the rushing headwinds of mortality supplied by middle age, I want to figure out how best to use my remaining time on earth.
