I majored in sociology and also studied subjects like economics, philosophy, psychology etc. I wanted to be part of some sort of change but was not sure how. Because I enjoy interacting with people, I applied to schools and stumbled upon a position for advising secondary school students regarding their academic and professional futures. Students, I feel are so full of positive energy and fresh ideas. They are unbiased, honest and each and every one has their own unique potential. I found it extremely fulfilling to help these young minds reach their short and long term goals. Overtime, I volunteered at education NGOs, took online courses, attended workshops, carried out research to get all sorts of experiences. Most importantly, I was selected for the Endeavour Executive Award, and had the opportunity to work, over the summer, with University of Wollongong’s Career Office. This international experience was extremely useful in helping me understand how student services should be delivered. It’s been five years since I graduated, and today, I am leading the Career Guidance department at Beaconhouse School System, Central Region. The Beaconhouse group is one of the largest private school networks in Pakistan with an international network of branches across 9 countries and student body of over 100,000 enrolled across its campuses in Pakistan. My team consists of advisors from all over Punjab, the largest province in the country. I find it exciting to be part of this department, where ideas, processes, policies, events etc. impact students directly, improve their experiences and learning outcomes, and give them the opportunities they need to get one step closer to their dreams.
