Fizan Rawlley is an educator, mentor and school Activity Coordinator who believes that education is not merely about what children learn, but about how they learn to see themselves and the world around them. With over five years of experience in education, I have worked across academics, pastoral care, student wellbeing and co-curricular programmes at Mussoorie International School. My journey in education has allowed me to work with children of different ages, personalities and learning needs, teaching her that every child carries a story that may not always be visible on the surface. I am passionate about creating environments where children feel heard, valued and confident enough to explore, question and express themselves. Known for my empathetic approach, strong sense of responsibility and belief in experiential learning, I strive to make learning meaningful beyond the classroom. I believe that some of the most important lessons are not found in textbooks but in conversations, relationships, failures, experiences and the courage to look at familiar things differently. Through my work, I hope to inspire young people to become curious thinkers, compassionate individuals and confident communicators.

I am passionate about people, possibilities and the power of perspective. I am passionate about children—not simply about teaching them, but about understanding them. Every child enters a classroom with a different personality, experience, fear, dream and way of making sense of the world. I find immense purpose in discovering what makes each child feel seen, heard and capable. I am passionate about creating experiences that allow children to move beyond memorising answers and instead ask questions, take risks, make mistakes and discover their own strengths. I believe some of the most powerful learning happens when children are given the freedom to experience rather than simply being instructed. I am equally passionate about people and the stories they carry. Working in education has taught me that behaviour is often only the visible part of a much deeper story. It has made me more curious about what lies beneath the surface. Most importantly, I am passionate about changing perspectives—my own as much as others’. I believe growth begins when we are willing to look again, listen differently and challenge what we think we already know. For me, education is ultimately about creating that moment when someone begins to see themselves differently—and realises they are capable of more than they believed.

“Perspective can change everything.” We often believe that what we see is the truth. But what if it is only one version of the truth? As an educator, I have repeatedly seen how the same situation can mean completely different things to different people. A child who appears disinterested may actually be struggling. A child labelled “difficult” may simply be trying to communicate something they do not know how to express. A failure may feel like an ending to one person and an opportunity to another. My idea worth spreading is that we need to consciously pause and question the lens through which we view people, situations and even ourselves. A change in perspective does not necessarily change the situation—but it can change our response to it. And sometimes, that response changes everything. If we learn to replace judgement with curiosity, assumptions with questions, and labels with understanding, we create space for people to grow. I believe this is especially important in education, where the way an adult sees a child can influence the way that child eventually sees themselves. Sometimes, all a person needs is for someone to see them differently.

Being part of a TEDx organising team for the first time is a completely new and exciting experience for me. While I am not a speaker, being behind the scenes has given me a very different perspective on what it takes to bring a TEDx event to life. As an educator and someone involved in school activities and events, I have always enjoyed creating experiences that bring people together. However, being part of the TEDx journey has made me realise that an impactful event is not just about the stage or the speakers—it is about the ideas, the people behind those ideas, and the collective effort that allows those ideas to reach an audience. Working through the planning, coordination and many details of the event has given me the opportunity to interact with people who think differently, approach challenges differently and carry stories that deserve to be heard. It has reinforced my belief that every person brings a unique perspective, and sometimes one idea or one conversation can make us look at something we thought we knew in an entirely new way. For me, this TEDx experience is about learning, collaborating and discovering the power of ideas. It has reminded me that meaningful change often begins with something simple—a different question, a different viewpoint, or the willingness to see things differently.

People may not know that I am equally comfortable behind the wheel as I am in the kitchen! I enjoy driving and cooking, but beyond these, I believe my real strengths lie in teamwork and collaboration. I genuinely enjoy working with people, bringing different ideas together, and finding ways to make things happen. I am empathetic and often try to understand what lies behind a person’s words or actions. I am hardworking, passionate, and tend to give my best to whatever I take up. I believe in showing up, taking responsibility, and quietly getting the job done.
