Bio
Following a successful career working for a national high street bank in various service and advisory roles, Laura and her husband Paul, jumped at the opportunity to form their own company and Partner with St. James’s Place, a FTSE 100 company. They recognised that there was a gap in the market to provide clients with local, trusted, face to face financial advice.
The company has grown rapidly since it was formed in 2018, now looking after clients from a variety of professions and backgrounds including, medical professionals, company directors, footballers, CEO/CFO of National and International organisations, lottery winners, or retired business owners and individuals.
Between 2012 and 2018 Laura took a break from the financial services profession and worked in education and governance at a local secondary school, the qualifications, experiences, and skills that were acquired during this time have been invaluable as a business owner and helped her drive the company to be one of the fastest growing St. James’s Place practices in the southwest.
Laura specialises in people management and coaching, strategy development, policy, data protection and compliance, her aim is to provide the best service and experience to clients and colleagues every day.
She is a member of the Institute of Leadership and Management and qualified in 2022 gaining the Leadership and Management CII Accreditation.
Laura is an advocate for flexible working and the 4-day working week, she drove the company to be an accredited 4 day week approved employer in 2024.
When she’s not in the office, Laura spends her down time with her family and their two mad dachshund’s, Moriarty and Basil, she also volunteers as a home checker for St. Francis Dogs home based in Newquay Cornwall as well as being part of the core team of volunteers bringing TED talks to Truro.
I'm passionate about
Giving the next generation the platform to speak, share their ideas, fears and thoughts on our world, their future, community and their education.
My Why is to see the comprehension or understanding on a young persons face when the spark of and idea or something taught makes sense. Providing opportunity through discussion, education, connection and conversation is key. Whether that be through a one to one discussion, a class room based activity or something on a larger scale like a TED talk.
A core objective delivered through my company is to give back to the community, by delivering the Financial Education Programme. Going into various local schools and colleges throughout the year speaking to different age groups, which will also help students gain an understanding of the complex financial decisions that come with getting older, which are not covered widely enough through the English national curriculum. It may also create the spark that may lead to the future generation of advisors in Financial Services.
Areas of expertise
Business Owner, Financial Education, Leadership and Management, Mad Dachshund owner.
The TED story
I came across the TED talk given by Molly Wright at the age of 7 in 2021, for me that talk captured me, how was she able to deliver it at such a young age and make me as an adult stop me in my tracks and listen was so powerful.
I had seen other talks over the years but none changed the way I viewed the power of an idea delivered to a community in quite the same way.
The learning delivered by her in that TED Talk shaped how I saw our children learn, how we still learn as adults and how we can use the experience of a TED talk to deliver an idea that can make a very big impact.
When the opportunity to get involved at a local level became available I jumped at the chance and have loved every step of the journey so far.
Things you might not know
Turning chaos into calm... taking lots of ideas, narrowing them down into a streamlined chain/process to be able to deliver the outcome or objective I have been set/ or set myself.
I am a control freak and use this as a super power in everything I try to do, so far it has served me well.
