My name is Flora Tissier and I am currently pursuing an MBA with an emphasis in Finance. I was born and raise in France and was a cross country and track student-athlete during undergrad. I am passionate about helping others grow through sport and education. When I go for a run, I love listening to TEDx talks because they inspire me and make me think about the world from different perspectives, which is why I’m excited to be part the lead organizer of TEDx Central Michigan University this year!

One of my biggest passions is spending time outdoors and visiting national parks. Being in nature helps me to be present and appreciate the moment instead of thinking about everything else going on in my life. I also love any outdoor activity in general: running, hiking, camping, skiing, rock climbing or backpacking. Some of my favorite moments are the simplest ones like sharing a meal with friends or family after a long day outside in front of a beautiful view. Those experiences remind me how important it is to disconnect, be curious and enjoy where you are in the present moment.

My goal in hosting this TEDx event is to promote public speaking, the power of storytelling and continue to have inspiring ideas on the campus of Central Michigan University. For the past six years, I've listened to TEDx Talks during my runs via podcasts and they've always inspired me to see the world from new perspectives. I want to bring that same experience to our campus by creating a platform where students, faculty and community members can share “ideas worth spreading”. Last year, I had the opportunity to be part of the student team that organized our TEDx event. I served on both the speaker curation and logistics teams and it was one of the highlight of my year. Seeing the impact the event had on both speakers and attendees made me realize how valuable TEDx can be for our university community. Since the previous organizer graduated, I am excited about the opportunity to continue building on that momentum and ensure TEDx remains a lasting tradition on campus.
