Bio
Demario Davis is a leader, philanthropist, and advocate whose influence extends far beyond the football field. A devoted husband, father, and man of deep faith, Demario is widely respected for his unwavering commitment to integrity, service, and empowering others to reach their full potential. At the center of his life is his faith, which serves as the guiding force behind his decisions, leadership, and purpose.
A veteran linebacker for the New York Jets, Demario has built a reputation throughout the National Football League as one of the game’s most consistent and respected leaders. Known for his relentless work ethic, strong leadership, and impact both on and off the field, he has served as a team captain and mentor to teammates while maintaining elite performance throughout his career. His approach to the game reflects the same discipline and character that shape every area of his life.
Off the field, Demario’s passion for service and community impact drives much of his work. In 2013, he and his wife, Tamela Davis, founded the Devoted Dreamers Foundation to inspire and equip the next generation of leaders. Through mentorship, athletics, leadership development, and educational programming, the foundation helps young people grow spiritually, mentally, and physically while discovering their purpose and potential. Their vision is rooted in the belief that when young people are given the right tools, guidance, and encouragement, they can transform not only their own lives but the communities around them.
Demario and Tamela are also leaders in the Philanthropic Locker Room, a community of athletes and their families focused on advancing community impact and leadership development. The initiative is in partnership with Stand Together, a philanthropic community that supports some of America’s boldest changemakers working to tackle the country’s most pressing challenges.
Demario has also been a strong and courageous voice for social justice and community impact. As a member of the Players Coalition, he has worked to address social injustice and create greater opportunities for underserved communities. His #SayHerName campaign helped raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by Black women in America and encouraged meaningful conversations about equity, dignity, and justice.
His dedication to service and leadership has earned him widespread recognition. Demario was the New Orleans Saints nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2020, 2022, and 2025, and he received the prestigious Bart Starr Award in 2021—an honor given to players who exemplify outstanding character, leadership, and faith both on and off the field.
Faith remains the cornerstone of everything Demario does. It shapes how he leads his family, how he serves his community, and how he uses his platform to uplift others. Whether mentoring young people, advocating for justice, or building stronger communities, he leads with humility, compassion, and a deep sense of purpose.
Demario believes that true success is not defined by individual achievement, accolades, or titles, but by the lives we impact along the way. Through his leadership, philanthropy, and unwavering commitment to faith and service, he continues to inspire others to dream boldly, live with intention, and create lasting change in the world around them.
I'm passionate about
Demario Davis is widely known for his leadership on the football field, but the passions that drive him extend far beyond the game. At the core of Demario’s work are faith, family, leadership development, and a deep commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation.
Faith and Purpose-Driven Living
Faith is the foundation of Demario’s life and leadership. His personal mission is rooted in living with purpose and using every platform he has—whether through sports, community work, or speaking—to encourage others to pursue their calling and live with intention.
Demario believes leadership begins with character. His faith shapes the way he approaches decision-making, relationships, service, and mentorship. He frequently speaks about the importance of aligning personal success with a greater purpose and using influence to serve others.
Empowering the Next Generation
One of Demario’s greatest passions is investing in young people. Alongside his wife, Tamela Davis, he founded the Devoted Dreamers Foundation with the goal of equipping youth with the tools they need to thrive spiritually, mentally, and physically.
Through the foundation’s programs, Demario focuses on:
- Leadership and character development
- Academic encouragement and mentorship
- Sports as a vehicle for discipline and opportunity
- Life skills and personal responsibility
His belief is that when young people are given guidance, resources, and positive role models, they can become powerful agents of change in their communities.
Leadership Development
Demario is passionate about helping others grow as leaders. Throughout his career in the National Football League, he has been recognized as one of the most respected locker-room leaders.
As a veteran linebacker for the New York Jets and former longtime captain of the New Orleans Saints, Demario has consistently demonstrated what it means to lead with accountability, humility, and service.
He believes leadership is not about titles, but about influence—how you show up for others, how you handle adversity, and how you help those around you grow.
Community Impact and Philanthropy
Serving the community is central to Demario’s mission. Through his philanthropic efforts, he works to strengthen families and communities by investing in youth, supporting local initiatives, and building partnerships that create lasting impact.
Demario sees sports as a powerful entry point for mentorship and development. By combining athletics with education, leadership training, and life skills, he strives to create environments where young people can grow into confident and purpose-driven adults.
Advocacy and Social Impact
Demario is also passionate about using his platform to address issues affecting underserved communities. As a member of the Players Coalition, he has been involved in efforts to combat social injustice and create greater equity and opportunity.
One example of this work was his #SayHerName initiative, which helped bring awareness to the challenges faced by Black women in America. For Demario, advocacy is not about visibility—it is about responsibility. He believes those with influence have a duty to speak up and serve others.
Family and Legacy
Above all, Demario’s greatest passion is his family. As a husband and father, he prioritizes building a strong foundation at home and modeling the values he teaches publicly.
Everything he pursues—whether in football, philanthropy, leadership, or advocacy—is rooted in the desire to leave a lasting legacy of faith, service, and impact for future generations.
Guiding Philosophy
Demario Davis believes true success is measured not by personal accomplishments but by the lives you help impact. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to leadership, mentorship, faith, and community transformation.
Through his platform, his foundation, and his personal example, Demario continues to inspire others to live with purpose, lead with integrity, and invest in the next generation.
An idea worth spreading
For much of our culture, leadership is often associated with power, visibility, and authority. But the most transformative leaders rarely start there. Real leadership begins with character, discipline, and a willingness to serve others long before recognition ever comes.
Throughout his journey as a professional athlete, husband, father, and community advocate, Demario Davis has learned that platforms—whether in sports, business, or public life—are not simply opportunities for personal success. They are responsibilities.
His idea is simple but powerful: the true measure of leadership is not how far you rise, but how many people you lift along the way.
Sports taught Demario discipline and resilience, but it also revealed a deeper truth. The locker room, much like life, thrives when individuals choose accountability, service, and trust over ego. The strongest teams are not built on talent alone—they are built on leaders who prioritize the growth of the people around them.
This philosophy extends far beyond the field. In communities across the country, young people are searching for identity, direction, and belief in their own potential. When leaders step forward not only to succeed but to mentor, guide, and invest in others, the ripple effect can transform entire communities.
Demario’s work in youth mentorship, leadership development, and community advocacy reflects this belief. By helping young people discover their purpose and equipping them with the tools to grow spiritually, mentally, and physically, he demonstrates that leadership is ultimately about multiplication—creating more leaders, not more followers.
At its core, his message challenges audiences to rethink what success looks like.
What if the most important question leaders asked was not “How far can I go?” but “Who am I bringing with me?”
When leadership becomes an act of service rather than status, influence becomes transformational. Families grow stronger. Communities become more resilient. And individuals begin to recognize the power they have to shape the future of others.
Demario believes that everyone—regardless of profession or platform—has the ability to lead in this way. Leadership does not require a title. It requires intention, integrity, and a commitment to helping others rise.
Because the greatest legacy any leader can leave is not their achievements, but the people they inspire to dream, grow, and lead themselves.

The TED story
Demario Davis believes that true leadership begins long before the spotlight finds you. It begins in the quiet moments—when discipline is chosen over comfort, when faith is chosen over fear, and when purpose becomes bigger than personal success.
Known to many for his long and respected career in professional football, Demario’s story is not simply about athletic achievement. It is about transformation, responsibility, and the power of influence when it is rooted in purpose.
Growing up, Demario learned early that adversity can either define you or refine you. Sports became an outlet for focus and growth, but it was the lessons behind the game—discipline, accountability, and resilience—that ultimately shaped the man he would become. Equally important was the role faith played in his life. His love for faith and his relationship with God helped shape the person he is today, guiding his decisions, strengthening his character, and grounding him in a deeper sense of purpose.
As his career progressed and he stepped onto the biggest stages in professional sports, Demario began to recognize that the platform he had been given carried a deeper responsibility.
For him, success was never meant to stop at personal accolades or career milestones. Instead, it became a call to invest in others.
That calling led him and his wife, Tamela, to dedicate their lives to empowering the next generation. Together they launched the Devoted Dreamers Foundation, a nonprofit focused on equipping young people with the tools to grow spiritually, mentally, and physically. Through mentorship, leadership development, and sports-based programming, their work focuses on helping youth discover their identity, build character, and pursue lives of purpose.
But Demario’s passion for impact extends beyond youth development. Throughout his career, he has used his voice to address issues affecting communities across the country—encouraging conversations about justice, opportunity, and responsibility.
For him, leadership is not about titles or recognition; it is about how you show up for others when it matters most.
Faith remains the cornerstone of everything Demario does. It informs how he leads, how he serves, and how he approaches every challenge in life. Whether mentoring young athletes, speaking to leaders, or serving communities in need, his message is consistent: greatness is not measured by what you achieve for yourself, but by what you help others become.
At TED, Demario shares the lessons he has learned from the locker room, the community, and his personal journey of faith and growth. His story invites audiences to rethink leadership—not as a position of power, but as a commitment to purpose.
Because in Demario’s view, the most powerful legacy anyone can leave is not fame or success—it is the lives they help shape along the way.
