Bio
Michael has spent most of his adult life working with children and families. As a Thomas J Watson Fellow, he researched the life stories of educators supporting homeless and working children in different parts of the world. He then became a street outreach worker himself at a small non-profit in the southeast of Mexico.
After studying a graduate degree in public policy, he moved to the Netherlands to work for the Van Leer Foundation, one of the world's oldest philanthropic organisations focused on early childhood development. In nearly two decades at the foundation he has held 5 roles. Since 2020, he serves as Chief Executive Officer.
At work he spends most of his time thinking about babies, toddlers and their parents. At home he spends most of his time thinking about his almost teenage daughter and her parents. He loves how science can make the mundane feel magical, swimming in the open water, listening to music, reading and writing.
