Bio

Fabi Reyna is a cultural activist and composer working with music as a tool for communication, investigation, and socio-political resilience. As the founder of She Shreds Media, and creative vision behind Reyna Tropical, they offer spaces where underrepresented and diasporic people can unify and thrive. Reyna brings their idea of MIXTA—a process identifying the mixed diaspora who are de-assimilating and re-rooting through their Indigenous wisdom—to TED 2026.

I'm passionate about

I spend most of my time breaking down and rebuilding concepts of identity, with the goal of building homes for people like me—los que no son ni de aqui, ni de allá. My passion and purpose is co-creating spaces where women, queer, trans, two-spirit, and people of the global majority can see themselves and therefore believe that the opportunity to find their fullest potential exists, even when it doesn’t yet. At 19 years old I birthed She Shreds Media—the world’s first and only guitar magazine dedicated to women guitarists—as an answer to the misconception that “girls don’t play guitar.” Since 2016, I’ve created songs and experiences as Reyna Tropical that bring attention to the injustices, histories, and joys existing within Queer Love & Afro Mexico—a project investigating the tropical diaspora. Today, I’m answering to a vision, a feeling, a voice urging me to facilitate the Mixta (MEE-sh-TA) movement: a home for the mixed race diaspora: de-colonizing, de-assimilating, and re-rooting.

An idea worth spreading

Mixta (MEE-sh-TA): A movement for the mixed diaspora who are de-assimilating and re-rooting through their Indigenous ancestral wisdom. An identifying word for diasporic beings of North, Central and South America (Turtle Island, Anahuac, Abya Yala). Unlike mestizaje, hispanic, chicano, latino, MIXTA de-centers, and refuses anti-Indigenous, anti-Black, sexist, individualistic, and homophobic ideologies that force vulnerable mixed-race people to perpetuate settler-colonial cycles of violence. Instead we honor, respect, and vow to protect Indigenous wisdom, acknowledge the global influence of African innovation, and return to a matriarchal, 2-spirit approach of caring for the land, our mother, and in turn ourselves.
