Tania Palich

I am a Senior Media Coordinator at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. I started at Deakin 4.5 years, following over twenty years in Television production, where I produced long form stories about topics important to our communities - everything from homelessness to medical breakthroughs to highlighting flaws in the justice system.  I worked with an award-winning team at The Project - a nightly current affairs television program - as well as on shows such as Emergency, where I was a Senior Field Producer partnered with an Emergency Room doctor every shift for 13 weeks. The series is a fly-on-the-wall take of day to day life of first responders in trauma wards and ER departments and it airs one night a week during prime time.  I now look after the media engagement for researchers and academics in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment. This role has enabled me to discover researchers at Deakin University who are doing the most amazing things.  The TEDx stage is the perfect stage for Deakin to showcase the brilliant minds of the university, and we held our first TEDxDeakin Uni Melbourne on 27 November, 2025.

The Science of Us - how ground-breaking research is being conducted almost daily at our university on every aspect of life - environmental, physical, emotional, etc - and that these findings should be spread via all channels, not just scientific journals
