I'm passionate about
Making people aware of how their experiences color their perception. How the things they see, hear, watch, or like, change the way they respond to events in their life. I love to read, to know how incomprehensible a simple narrative could become. I love to write, however unstructured my poetries are, and however long it takes me to complete my stories. I love to talk politics, because politics shape the rest of the world order that affects us. I love and hate the society's dichotomous psychology. And all of it together, in one ridiculously heady cocktail, is what infuences my worldview, what colors my experiences. That I realise it is a luxury to have the time and brainspace to think of these things, is something I'm currently thinking of.
An idea worth spreading
That social media is not just a connectivity tool anymore, it is now such an all encompassing aspect of society that we're unaware of the effects it is slowly having on our collective ideologies. Especially for students, at a crucial and impressionable age, the world as a whole should realise the kind of impact it is going to have on humanity as a whole. We're supposed to be adaptive, constantly learning and experiencing our own days, not looking out the window at someone else's day in 30 seconds. We are to learn and move on, to be proven wrong and grow, to be able to simply like something because it soothes us, not because it is a trend everyone is following.
Because life is not a trend, it is a constant flow of our own perception and experiences. What matters is our life, not watching someone else live theirs.
The TED story
A Tedx-talk by Dr. Lila Landowski, a neuroscientist, initiated my passion towards understanding the depth of impact social media and it's content has on us. Ted-talks hold a serious pedestal of knowledge and influence in my view, because it is not the influence that depends on how many people watched it, it is the credibility and respect that Ted has earned over the years, that I have watched as a student and as a young adult, and continue to do so.
Maybe someday, if all goes as I wish for it to, I will be able to use my thoughts and influence to make policies that change the state of our mentality. Social media, climate change, capitalism, religion, fiction, everything interests me, not just the main entities, but the concept and outcomes of them all, consequences that we don't think about while rushing to the office every morning.
That is where Ted comes in, with a twenty minute talk about things that actually matter, rather than twenty minutes of mindless scrolling during commute.
Things you might not know
I'm a jolly person, someone who can laugh over the most awkward situations. What people don't realise about me is the depth of thought I give to everything, while also dismissing it at the time it is in front of me. It is a perplexing process of thought, I've realised. Trivial things don't often interest me, sometimes I ignore little thoughts about my own problems when I remember that they hold literally no importance in the vast of the world's problems.
